Bristol Rugby's Paul Hull is excited about the opportunity to work with some of England's future stars after being appointed assistant coach of the Saxons.

The Bristol assistant coach will work with England's second team ahead of and during their forthcoming games against Portugal and Ireland A, as well as the Churchill Cup this summer.

Hull, a former England full-back, will link up with the Saxons after Bristol's European Challenge Cup clash with Montpellier on January 25.

And he is relishing the chance to work with some of the most exciting talent in the country – and then take new ideas back to Bristol to aid their Guinness Premiership survival bid.

"You go into coaching to try to better yourself and to develop as a coach," said Hull.

"I spent a few years working in the Academy, am in my sixth year in the Premiership and am now really pleased to be asked to coach a national team at senior level.

"I have coached the England Students before, but this is senior level, working with players who are knocking on the door for full international honours. So I am really excited about this."

The 40-year-old's first match as Saxons assistant coach will be the clash with Portugal at Edgeley Park, Stockport, on Friday, January 30, before their testing trip to Ireland a week later.

"It is definitely a change of scenery and a chance to work with different players, a different game-plan and different tactics," said Hull.

"I am excited about working with future England players and players from a variety of clubs with different philosophies."

Saxons head coach Stuart Lancaster is pleased to welcome Hull on board as his side look to extend their 10-match unbeaten run, which stretches back to June 2006.

"As a player, Paul was an exciting, free-running full-back and I am delighted that he is able to join the England Saxons coaching team," said Lancaster.

"As well as a proven track record in nurturing young talent – he led Bristol's under-21s to three successive Premiership titles from 1999-2002 – Paul has got plenty of Premiership coaching experience, having worked with London Irish and Bristol.

"Paul has an exciting vision for the game and that's the way we want the Saxons to play."
