Bristol Rovers' youngsters have succeeded where their senior side failed – by winning a cup game against Bournemouth.

Neikell Plummer netted a 77th-minute goal to give the Pirates a 1-0 victory in the first round of the FA Youth Cup at Dean Court on Monday night.

Rovers' first team have lost their last five outings against the Cherries, including two defeats in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and last Saturday's 1-0 reverse in the FA Cup.

But Plummer, who had earlier seen a penalty attempt saved, netted a far-post header to book the Gas a second-round home clash with Brighton. The date for the game has still to be confirmed.

“At last! Let's hope the lads go on to win a few more rounds! Do they get dosh for each round? Also is Neikell a relation of Dwayne and his brothers?”
