Bristol Rovers winning run comes to an end but we need to do it again now
BRISTOL ROVERS FAN'S VIEW: In this up and down season it was inevitable that we would follow a magnificent four-goal display at Swindon with the first goalless draw of the season at the Memorial Stadium.
We got off to our traditionally slow start again and never really picked up the pace of the game or showed any urgency until the last 15 minutes when we finally started creating chances but just couldn't put one away.
Overall, I felt we did enough to win the game but we took a long time to recover from the unfortunate injury to Byron Anthony who had again been playing well.
I watched the game from the excellent view provided by the corporate hospitality seats where most of the prawn sandwich brigade was puzzled by Paul Trollope's substitution of Anthony with Wayne Brown. The changes meant we now had a left-sided player at right-back and two central midfield players out wide.
We would like to have seen Ben Swallow to give us some pace and width out on the left. With the play-offs slipping away what have we got to lose by playing the promising youngsters with next season in mind?
The visitors just seemed content to take a point from a game crying out for someone like Swallow to open things up. But are Rovers eyeing up Brown as a permanent replacement for Chris Lines, who I fear must be on the radar of Championship clubs. What is the point of playing Brown otherwise?
Trolls' squad seems top-heavy with midfield players as Mark Wright was also on the bench. I understand we are still trying to sign Wood from West Brom. We ought to be bringing people in with a view to strengthening for next season. There must be some right-sided wide men out there somewhere.
The introduction of Andy Williams did produce some urgency in our play and a series of corners.
Andersen's superb save when faced with a one-on-one kept us in the game while the visitor's 'keeper Luke Daniels seemed another unemployed statistic, although he did produce a good save from a Lines free-kick. Despite our run of three successive home wins coming to an end, I see no reason why we cannot make it three victories on the trot away by beating Exeter and Yeovil this week.
