Bristol Rovers unlikely to return with improved offer for Cian Bolger
Bristol Rovers boss John Ward is unlikely to return with an improved offer for Leicester City defender Cian Bolger, the Post understands.
Ward had a bid for an undisclosed sum of money rejected at the end of last week and hinted over the weekend that the two clubs were wide apart in their valuation of the 20-year-old, who has featured over 50 times for Rovers during three separate loan spells.

On Monday, however, the manager revealed that he may be forced into bringing in another defender after it was confirmed that skipper Garry Kenneth will miss the remainder of the season through injury.
The arrival of senior striker, however, remains at the top of Ward's most wanted list and The Post has learned that moves have been made for two players in the last 24 hours and that Rovers are currently awaiting the outcomes of those inquiries.

Bolger, however, is not thought to be one of those targets and is likely to remain out of reach unless the cost of the whole package to sign the player is significantly reduced.
The manager, meanwhile, is still yet to learn whether or not Stoke City midfielder Matthew Lund will return to the Memorial Stadium for a third loan spell – but the chances of that move happening appear to be receding by the day.
Ward confirmed earlier this week that another club had shown an interest in taking Lund on loan but a decision on the midfielder's future has still yet to be made.

“Bit harsh on Clarkson, although no doubt he is probably expensive”

“Real shame if we can't get him in this window, Bolger and Parkes are clearly most comfortable when playing alongside one another, with their complementary styles of defending.
I'd rather stick with what we know will work rather than gamble on yet another new face in the defence, so hopefully the deal is not totally dead just yet!

“Bolger is a must signing,so the news Rovers are not going back for him comes sadly as no surprise.
Stupidity not too far short as Higgs decision to sack Lennie, that saw us relegated.
Sick of these old expensive footballers at Rovers. The has beens who turn up,give it blah blah in the interview (or at least their vile agent does) and then they earn a very good £ contract.
then they get injured.
Waste of money.
Eg,Virgo,Gill,Kenneth,Clarkson.
Pay em up and ship em out!
Desperate times at Rovers. It's been going down hill all over the club for years, but now there is a serious threat of relegation from the FL.”

“I was informed by a reliable source Gasinsider of the original bid, that BRFC made...so don't make comments that you know nothing about ! It is widely known that Leicester were asking £250,000 for Cian Bolger!
We are ALL well aware that the 'Gas' urgently need a tall, fleet footed goalscorer very urgently and I feel sure that JW and the board, are making every effort to acquire the services of such a player.”

“Arbie uses the phrase 'make a sensible bid' How do you work that out? You dont know what Rovers offered and you dont know what Leicester have asked for.
Yes he would be an asset but our priority has to be a striker or two and then a Bolger type player”

“cian is desperatly needed but we cant be held to ransom ,if buying him will mess our finances up then we will have to let him go and look elsewhere, id say our goalscoring or lack of should be our main priority and a striker is a must preferably two of them u.t.g.”

“Not only would it be money well spent, it would be a financial investment for the club. A financial asset.”
