Bristol Rovers will hold a 4pm press conference to reveal the steps they are to take in the aftermath of Mark McGhee's departure from the club.

McGhee was relieved of his duties following Saturday's 4-1 defeat at York City, which left his side one off the bottom of League Two.

The players will report to their Cribbs Causeway HQ this morning where they will train as usual under the guidance of assistant manager Shaun North and development coach Marcus Stewart.

It was thought the pair would be put in temporary charge of team affairs whilst the club began their search for a permanent successor - but the club's decision to delay their press conference until late this afternoon has increased speculation that a new man may be unveiled later today.

Former Rovers boss John Ward is widely rumoured to be in the frame to take the job after reportedly stalling on an offer to become director of football at League Two club Plymouth Argyle last week.

“Quote 'They BOTH have very strong connections with BRFC'

They also BOTH have very strong connections with BCFC...

The one thing I will say about John Ward, though, is that he does tend to get the best out of the players at his disposal.

But whatever my personal feelings, or anyone else's for that matter, if the John Ward rumour proves true then I wish him and the team all the best and needless to say hope that the supporters get 100% behind the manager, the board and the team. Time for Rovers to reunite and move forward.”

“IMO....Having John Ward as Director of Football, assisted by Marcus Stewart, would be a good idea. They BOTH have very strong connections with BRFC and will be ensuring that whoever wears the blue and white quarters, wears it with pride and play to the BEST of their ability in all games. Any player, who seems to be appearing, just to collect their salary, NEEDS to be shown the door, rapidly.

    UP THE GAS.”
