Bristol Rovers raise funds with memorabilia sale
Bristol Rovers are turning to the internet to help to bring more funds into the club.
The League One outfit are using the internet auction site eBay to sell off memorabilia and unwanted kit.
-

The latest lot is a complete set of shorts described as being ideal for a local football team.
The 21 pairs of shorts are now surplus to requirements and have already attracted seven bids and currently stand at £21.
The shorts, ranging in size from large to extra large, come with official Football League numbers and include 20 green pairs and one black pair for the goalkeeper.
Byron Anthony's Johnstone's Paint Trophy shirt is also currently on sale and is going for £36.
Other recent items sold off by Rovers include:
Bristol Rovers mug signed by Lennie Lawrence and Paul Trollope – £20.
Signed copy of Ian Holloway's autobiography – £30.
Signed Bristol Rovers limited edition pink shirt – £54.
Rovers spokeswoman Kirsty Pugh said: "We do a lot with eBay, selling off various items.
"But what has particularly caught the imagination of fans has been some of the memorabilia we have put on the site.
"We recently sold off a shirt which was worn by Craig Disley for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final win against Shrewsbury at Wembley.
"This was a signed shirt which went for £86 and it shows that the fans really do want genuine memorabilia.
"It is a great source of income for the club as well as being a cheaper option for fans to get their hands of items which otherwise might be out of their price range."
Bristol Rovers fans will get the chance to grill first-team coach Paul Trollope and chairman Nick Higgs at the club's open day next month.
But Pirates supporters have only until tomorrow to submit their questions for the club's top brass.
Higgs is relatively new in the post and will probably be quizzed on the development of the Memorial Stadium and the club's financial position.
Trollope has been in charge of Rovers since 2005 and led the team to a mid-table finish in League One this year.
They will be joined by finance director Toni Watola on the panel at the Memorial Stadium on Sunday, July 12 (2.15pm).
Rovers say that a selection of questions will be chosen with the fan concerned then offered the chance to ask his or her question to the panel in person.
The fun day – which features a fun fair in the car park – runs between noon and 4pm.
Trollope and the first team will be on hand throughout the afternoon to sign autographs and meet supporters.
The club shop will be open and the new home shirt and a range of new leisurewear will be available, while there is also a rare opportunity to tour the dressing rooms.
Questions should be sent via email to kirstypugh@bristolrovers.co.uk or to Kirsty Pugh, The Memorial Stadium, Filton Avenue, Horfield, Bristol, BS7 0BF.
Meanwhile, fans have until Saturday to purchase a season ticket before they are put up to full price.
Rovers have not increased prices for the coming campaign, and supporters have until June 27 to take advantage of the Early Bird offer.
Current season ticket holders also have until Saturday to renew their tickets before they are put back on general sale.

“the comments above, whilst really funny by city fans, just sums up what i have been blogging about on this site, the evening post, being citys champion for years, has found a vehicle to steam roller a swanky new stadium through planning, with this incesant talk about a world cup bid. the council won't dare say no to anything now. this bid if sucessful, would only benifit city, and their fans would have bragging rights, don't get me wrong, i wish steve lansdown was rovers chairman, hes prepared to put his money where his mouth is, he deserves to get the ground, and he will, but please stop the crap about world cup bids, aint gonna happen, city will get their ground, and it will be better than our crumbly old ground, there, city fans carry on the good p@@s taking, i'm really enjoying it!!”

“Francis Cousins --what a ridiculous name, why didnt you make one up like me
Anyway,im now beginning to realise why the red side of town calls us a mickey mouse club
I also reckon we should scrap building plans for the mem and submit a application for a brand new stadium to host some world cup games as a rival for the north somerset idea, that would be great i reckon”

“Re Francis Cousins
How the hell are the "reds planning for the World Cup?" I hate to break it to you but Bristol is a city so won't be allowed to participate in a world cup.
I know city fans are deluded but this takes the biscuit.”

“The shirt sold off recently was NOT worn by Craig Disley in the JPT Final against Shrewsbury at Wembley. In fact, it was not worn by any player in the JPT Final against Shrewsbury at Wembley - for 2 reasons.:
Firstly, it was a REPLICA shirt and not a match shirt.
Secondly, the JPT Final was at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff and not Wembley.
That's not to mention that fact that Rovers played DONCASTER ROVERS and not Shrewsbury in the JPT final. Rovers acatually played Shrewsbury in the PLAY OFF Final (which WAS at Wembley).”

“What a load of crap.
Rovers lost the JPT final, it was against Doncaster and it was played at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. Who is this fool that Rovers are employing???”
