Bristol Rovers have played down speculation linking top scorer Rickie Lambert with Premier League side Bolton Wanderers.

Newspaper reports suggested that Trotters manager Gary Megson was lining up a £1 million January move for Lambert.

The £200,000 signing from Rochdale has hit 17 goals in 18 Coca-Cola League One games this season – form which has had scouts flocking to the Memorial Stadium.

Bolton were reported to have watched Lambert in the 2-2 draw with Swindon Town, in which he scored the opening goal.

But a club source played down the reports, saying that while many clubs have checked out Lambert’s progress this season, Bolton are not among them.

“If Nicky Maynard cost £2,5 million from Crewe and wasn't as prolific in general play or scoring goals then £1 million wouldn't buy Rickie's kit !!”

“he has come on so much this year. its not just his goals its his all round game. i think on this season so for he is as good as any rovers player i have seen(watching since 1991/92 at 7yrs). and if that is the case we got 2m for roberts and ellington and 1.2 for stewert all those years ago so is a million enough?????”

“Cash is the higher priority, a top class player will always be sold.
Come back Bert Tann, all is forgiven.”

“All credit to Rickie Lambert for getting himself extra match fit and for turning into a sharp and regular goalscorer. But, like all rumours, never believe what you hear, only half believe what you see.”
