Paul Trollope has admitted there was a problem after signing young loan keeper Danzelle St Louis-Hamilton for Bristol Rovers – fitting his name on the shirt!

But the Pirates coach believes the teenage shot-stopper recruited from Stoke City has a bright future in the game.

The 6ft 3ins tall 18-year-old is third-choice keeper at the Britannia Stadium and has impressed in outings for the Potters' reserve side, but hopes to get his first taste of Football League action during his initial month-long stay.

That may be unlikely unless first-choice Steve Phillips suffers an injury over the weeks ahead, but Rovers decided to act after their number two Mike Green broke a finger.

"He came highly recommended by Tony Pulis," said Trollope. "I've not seen a lot of him, although our scouts have earlier in the season.

"There was obviously a need to get cover in because of Mike's injury.

"We've been looking at people of different ages and experience levels over the last week, but we wanted somebody who could be competition for Steve and be ready to step up to the plate if needed.

"He's a big lad with a big future ahead of him. We're pleased to have him on board and this will be good experience for him."

St Louis-Hamilton was on the bench for Tuesday's 3-0 victory over Yeovil Town at the Memorial Stadium and was expected to be among the substitutes again for today's clash with League One leaders Leicester City.

The Stevenage-born youngster started his career with Watford, but suffered the heartbreak of being shown the door as a 16-year-old.

"I was training there for about a year but I knew that I wasn't going to get signed, so I went to the exit trials and got picked up by Stoke," he said.

"I have trained and worked hard and got a profssional contract last summer. If you want to be a footballer you have to take the knocks, and because I took mine early it prepares you for the worst when you get older.

"I want to play league football here as it is a good opportunity for me to perform in front of a big crowd and try and show who I am and what I do.

"I have just played reserve games at Stoke, although it is a good standard because the squad is so big."

Rovers will check on the fitness of winger David Pipe ahead of the Leicester game.

The visitors will set a new club record of 20 games without defeat if they emerge with a point or more.
