Four Bristol Rovers fans appeared at Cardiff Magistrates' Court yesterday to face charges of football-related violence.

The four men are alleged to have been involved in a fight on August 26 between fans and police that broke out at Cardiff Central station after Rovers supporters refused to board the 10pm service to Temple Meads following a Carling Cup match which Cardiff won 3-1.

All four men denied charges of violent conduct brought by British Transport Police and a trial will be held in January.

They are Lewis Blackwell, aged 18, from Sixth Avenue, Horfield; Callum Powell, 18, from Hawthorn Close, Pucklechurch; Karl Preen, 20, of School Close, Patchway; and Daniel Rudge, 21, of Lake Road, Henleaze.

The four were given bail but the conditions mean that they cannot go within 1,500 metres of the Memorial Stadium on matchdays from five hours before kick-off until two hours after kick-off.

They cannot enter any town or city in which Bristol Rovers are playing an away game on matchdays and will need to get permission from police to travel by rail on matchdays.

● Jonathan Bargh, 19, of Brixton Road, Horfield, appeared before Cardiff magistrates yesterday.

He denied charges of threatening behaviour and racially-aggravated violence at Cardiff City Stadium on June 26.
