Bristol Rovers fan's view: Good to get one over on our good friend Gannon at the Mem

It may not have been a classic but it is always good to put one over on 'bad loser' Jim Gannon.

You would have thought that with a side as poor as Stockport County were at the Memorial Stadium that Mr Gannon would have been used to losing.

It cannot be because he held any long-standing grudge against Paul Trollope that he refused to shake his hand after Saturday's game because he was happy to do so when we lost 3-1 at Edgeley Park in December.

But the County boss will have to get used to eating some humble pie if this is the best his side can produce. It is no wonder they have been sliding down the league table since Christmas if they have been producing lacklustre performances like this.

On the day they were the poorest side to visit the Mem this season, chaotic in defence, lacking any ambition to go forward and nothing to offer up front.

The atmosphere around the stadium was like that of a friendly match at times and the busiest man from Stockport was the fan who kept banging his confounded drum.

It can't be easy to keep thumping it all afternoon when your favourites appear to be moribund.

Paul Trollope described our win as a "professional performance" although I am not sure how much of that was down to the solid display by his team or the visitors' inability to string much together.

Ok you can only beat what is put in front of you and the result was never in doubt after those early goals.

What a difference a week makes, if only Mr Clive Penton had refereed last week's game against Peterborough then maybe we would have got that penalty when the ball hit the Posh defender.

But once Rickie Lambert had tucked away his 25th goal it was game over and encouraging to see how much better we were than a team that has been above us in the league all season.

Maybe things would have also been different last week if Trolls had started with three up front as he did against the Hatters.

We looked so much more lively up front with Darryl Duffy and Jo Kuffour running at the defence with Lambert laying off some great balls to them.

I hope we stick with this formation for the rest of our home games this season as it is difficult to leave any of the strikers out at the moment.

It was also great to see Stuart Campbell in from the start, giving his usual whole-hearted performance as he led by example.

If we can keep this type of performance up for the rest of the season I wouldn't mind betting that we will finish above Stockport – although I doubt if Mr Gannon would shake on it.
