Bristol Rovers boss John Ward says he is looking for one or two 'reinforcements' after confirming that midfielder Seanan Clucas is the latest casualty to join the long-term injury list.

Clucas was taken off on a stretcher after receiving a heavy blow to the knee at Morecambe on Saturday and a scan has since confirmed a torn cruciate ligament, which will rule him out for the remainder of the season.

Ward said: "Seanan is going to be out for a while. He has a cruciate ligament injury and we're looking at a nine-month job. It's a real shame because he has been really good for us and these situations are terrible for any player."

When asked about Clucas' current contract expiring in the summer, Ward replied: "The club will make sure that he gets the best care possible and his contract will be looked after by the football club."

Striker Ryan Brunt, meanwhile, was also missing from the squad that travelled to Sixfields to take on Northampton Town tonight – although Ward confirmed that former Sunderland striker Oumare Tounkara, who is currently training with the club, will find out whether he has earned a short-term contract at the end of this week.

"Ryan had a little run in training yesterday and he felt his knee was sore and unstable," said Ward. "We have to reassess that again and see where we are at after that.

"We are short of players now and we certainly need to look at one or two reinforcements to get us through the next couple of months. It's difficult because I have my full amount of loans taken up so we have to look at free agents."

On Tounkara, Ward added: "He is a big strong boy that wants to do well and has the carrot of a contract at the end of it if he does really well.

"It's up to him now. He would certainly be a good reinforcement for us."

    “certainly seem to need reinforcements.

These injuries stopped for a month or so, but have started again. 4 first team players out tonight.

ironically Adam Virgo was on the bench tonight, but I wonder what his fitness really is like after so long out.”
