BRISTOL Rovers will bolster their squad ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup tie with Corby Town by signing Crystal Palace midfielder Andy Dorman on loan.

The 29-year-old Welsh international was completing the necessary paperwork today and joining his new team-mates for training.

The deal lasts until January 2 and boss Paul Buckle has been keen to strengthen with worries over the fitness of skipper Matt Gill – who missed last weekend’s defeat at Accrington Stanley – and Stuart Campbell ahead of the clash with the Steelmen.

"We have picked up a few injuries lately in midfield, which has been a worry,” said Buckle.

“Andy will bring us some much-needed experience and stability. He is a box-to-box player and his record shows that he can score goals.

“He made 23 appearances for a Championship side last year, and he is the perfect age for us.

"He will add lots of value to our squad and the fact he is available for Saturday's FA Cup game is a massive plus for us."

Six feet tall, Dorman started his career in America with New England Revolution in 2004 and made 117 appearances for the Major League Soccer outfit before heading back across the Atlantic to join Scottish side St Mirren.

He scored 19 goals for the Saints in 79 starts for the Scottish Premier League club with a further 19 appearances from the bench during a three-year spell which saw him linked with interest from a number of other clubs, including Rangers, Sheffield United and Bolton.

Dorman parted company with the Paisley club when his contract expired in July 2010 and joined the Eagles, having won his first Welsh cap a few months earlier in a 2-0 defeat in Croatia.

Although born in Chester, he grew up in Wales and played representative football for the Welsh schoolboys before moving to America for seven years, during which time he studied at Boston University. Dorman has found it hard to break into the first team at Selhurst Park this season and has made only three appearances for the south London club – one in the Championship and two in the Carling Cup – with two of those outings from the bench.

Rovers chairman Nick Higgs, pictured, said: "We are delighted to welcome Andy to the club. He is an experienced midfielder with Championship experience and should give us another option in the centre of the park.

"We are still working very hard behind the scenes to improve the squad, and we will continue to do so until we get things right."

    “@MAGGOT 1.

It doesn't take much to tease the nasty, violent and threatening traits out of you Red noses does it?. What relevance does your earlier tirade have to football? You really need to re-assess your life.

The Irons. More drivel, keep it up. I think you'll find I corrected a spelling mistake. Grammar? oh dear.

Keep visiting our pages if you must, I suppose we are slowly giving you some extra help in your education. You never know, one day you may even learn to recognise sarcasm and irony. I won't hold my breath though.”

“T.G ---IT is nice to know you have such a high opinion of the good folk of south Bristol--just as your opinion on football supporters in general-- THE BLUENOSE is not an exclusive put down of Liverpool towards Everton ---it is a term used by any city with two clubs or more in which one of the club's play in blue--Villa -Birmingham Celtic- Rangers City - Rovers.ETC..Have not googled the answer so may be wrong---but i don't think it originates from Liverpool.

REARTEE--shocking grammar ---MARKSY-MAGGER---you got em on the run --as always.

South Bristol the home of football.”
