Bristol Rovers backing anti-racist campaign
Bristol Rovers are staging a string of events at tomorrow's game against Yeovil at the Memorial Stadium in support of the national anti-racist campaign Kick It Out's "One Game, One Community" initiative.
The events will start at 1.45pm with a five-a-side demonstration from Bristol Central Football Club, a football project that caters for children in the St Paul's and Easton areas.
The players will then take to the field sporting Kick It Out t-shirts and accompanied by youngsters from Ashley Down Junior School.
At half-time there will be a parade featuring members of Bristol Rovers Ability FC, Ashley Down pupils, Bristol Central and the club's Centre of Excellence.
The Centre of Excellence, which has around 120 players from a variety of backgrounds and ethnicities, will be holding a bucket collection at the game to raise money to help send the Under-15 squad off to take part in a tournament next summer.
Rovers secretary Rod Wesson, who has organised the day's events, said: "Over the past seasons we have developed a well-earned reputation for approaching this activity with positive open minds, and this time around we have decided to showcase some of the ways in which we as a club put into action our firmly held beliefs and policies.
"The club has have a philosophy of inclusiveness, equality of opportunity and promotion of harmony, and we will be doing all we can to develop these relationships further into long-term sustainable ones for the benefit of all."
