Chris Dickson insists he will not be dwelling on the chances that got away in Bristol Rovers' weekend defeat at Southend United.

Instead, the on-loan Charlton marksman is relishing the opportunity to score his first goal at the Memorial Stadium when the Pirates take on Yeovil Town this Saturday.

Dickson went in to the game against the Shrimpers looking to build on an impressive start that had seen him net three times in his first four outings for Rovers.

But he failed to take a clutch of decent opportunities as the visitors suffered back-to-back League One defeats for the first time this season, despite dominating the second half.

"I spoke to the gaffer after the game and apologised for not scoring from the chances I had," revealed Dickson.

"The one thing I know about best is scoring goals, but for some reason it just wasn't going to happen for me.

"Quite a few of the lads told me afterwards it was just one of those days. In training I'm firing on all cylinders – but sometimes you have games when the ball just won't go in.

"That's two games in a row now that I've not scored and to me, that's unreal. I've got to get back in scoring form and if I can do that, then hopefully the team can start winning again.

"At least the fact I was in the right place to get the chances is a positive thing.

"One of the good things about being a striker is that you know that you can go out, score the winner in the next game and be a hero again – and we need to get back to winning games to stay in contention," added Dickson.

"Hopefully a few chances will fall for me on Saturday. I'm told the Yeovil game is a bit of a local derby so I know the fans will be right behind us again, as they have been in all the games since I came here.

"I want to get my first goal at home because all the ones I've scored so far have been in away games. It would be nice for the fans who have given us such good backing on the road."

Despite consecutive defeats, Bristol Rovers remain inside the top six with a game in hand on most of the sides above them.

"I was saying to the boys that if we win two out the next three we can be up to within a few points of the leaders. We need to get out of this losing streak as quickly as possible."
