Bristol Rovers: Mark McGhee determined to reward fans' ‘fantastic support’
Mark McGhee has promised to reward Bristol Rovers fans for their 'fantastic support' by building a team they can be proud of next season.
McGhee yesterday spoke glowingly about the welcome he has been afforded by Rovers fans since he arrived to replace Paul Buckle at the end of January following a horrendous start to the campaign.
The manager went on to talk of his desire to build a team capable of challenging for promotion in the next campaign to pay supporters back as the club makes a final push to try to persuade fans to invest in a season ticket before the special 'Early Bird' offer finishes at the end of April.
"You're always given a little bit of forgiveness when results are going your way, but I have to say the fans have been excellent since I've been here," McGhee said.

"It started in my first game in charge at Cheltenham where the supporters sang through the whole match and certainly played a massive part in driving us on to victory that day.
"The game at Swindon was another fantastic atmosphere and even the little group underneath the shed in the corner at Aldershot kept their spirits up despite seeing us lose that game.
"We've tried our best to offer those supporters something to shout about and we have absolutely no complaints whatsoever in how they have responded over the last couple of months.
"I hope what we have achieved so far has been enough to offer the supporters some encouragement that we will be a competitive outfit next season, although we all know that we have a lot of hard work to do over the summer to achieve that.
"There is a lot to do in terms of recruitment, both in terms of re-signing some of our current players and the ones who are here on loan.
"We'll also be looking to add one or two new faces, but it is work that is already well in progress.
"The fans have a huge part to play in taking us forward on the pitch and, from what I've seen, they are prepared to turn out in good numbers if we can give them something in return by winning games."
McGhee has presided over a run of only four defeats in 17 games and is yet to suffer a reverse at the Memorial Stadium since taking charge.
He added: "Our results have been good in the majority of games, but they could have been better.
"I really believe we could be about six points better off than we are at the moment because we should have won a couple of the games that we have drawn.
"Our home form has been good and that is always very important.
"The away form has been a mixed bag with defeats at Crewe and Northampton being a particular disappointment.
"We also lost at Shrewsbury, although they are a good side, but, regardless of the results we've had, the supporters have been fantastic."
The club has frozen season ticket prices as part of their current 'Early Bird' offer, which runs until April 30.
An application form is available online at www.bristolrovers.co.uk.
Tickets can also be purchased over the phone during office hours on 0117 909 6648 and selecting option one.
Liverpool have completed the signing of highly-rated Crewe 16-year-old Dan Smith.
