The second goal was scored by player-coach Rich Hargreaves, with only five seconds left of the period.
Satans pulled a goal back five minutes into the second period. Then, two minutes later, the visitors scored an equaliser.
Just 14 seconds after this, Australian import Adrian Esposito put the puck over Cardiff's goal line.
However, Cardiff quickly hit back to equalise and tie the score at 3-3.
The second period saw a number of penalties for both teams, including a few roughing and boarding calls, and Luke Merrick had to sit a 10-minute personal penalty after charging a Cardiff player.
The last goal of the second period was scored on Bristol's powerplay by Rich Hargreaves.
Seven minutes into the final period, Cardiff scored an unassisted shorthanded goal.
The score was tied at 4-4 for only two more minutes as Steven Osman scored a beautiful powerplay goal for the Pitbulls, assisted by Esposito and Rich Hargreaves.
No more goals were scored in the final 10 minutes of the game, although there were many chances and scuffles in front of the net.
