Hundreds turned out over the weekend to enjoy a trip on the Bristol Harbour Railway.

Passengers climbed aboard the 35-tonne saddle-tank engine Henbury for the 20-minute round trip between the ss Great Britain and the Create centre at Cumberland Basin.

The Henbury, which has been running on the docks for 31 years, was built in Bristol in 1937 and spent its working life at Avonmouth before entering museum service. It has been refined but has never needed an overhaul.

The BHR, which opened in 1978, is thought to be the only city-centre dockside steam railway in the country.

It is run by operations manager Dave Martin, 66, of Bradley Stoke, and a team of volunteers.

Mr Martin said: "It went very well indeed. It was jolly good weather, which always makes a difference. The crowds are comparable to the best we have had."

The railway runs on several occasions throughout the year. The dates are May 2, 3, 4, 23, 24, 25; June 6, 7, 20, 21; July 11, 12; August 1, 29, 30, 31; September 12, 13; October 3, 4, 24, 25, 31 and November 1.
