I have on occasions criticised Bristol City Council (BCC), however, it has to be said that Sunday's 21st Bristol Half Marathon was an immense credit to all concerned.

The organisational skills of BCC, marshalls, race officials, and first aid facilities were of the highest calibre.

What most impressed me was the family orientated spirit of camaraderie, and willingness of spectators to cheer on competitors they didn't know.

Indeed, one young lady from the charity CLIC, asked our son's name so that she could encourage him as he ran by!

My wife, daughter-in-law, and two- year-old grandson accompanied me, and it really was a great pleasure to be present in such congenial, and friendly surroundings. I did not witness a single incident of bad behaviour, or foul language.

It only remains to sincerely thank BCC, and all those who took part in what I shall always remember as a brilliant family day out.

● After completing the Bristol Half Marathon, and feeling very pleased with myself, I realised as I crossed the finish line that I had lost my iPod.

This is a green iPod with my name engraved on the back. If anyone has picked this up, I can be contacted on 07976 968394.

Thank you.
