Bristol City strike wins Goal of the Year Award
Bristol City's record signing won Goal of the Year at the 2010 Football League Awards last night.
Striker Nicky Maynard scooped the prize for his spectacular second-half volley at Loftus Road on Boxing Day in the club's 2-1 defeat to Championship rivals QPR.
The club record £2.25million signing from Crewe Alexandra saw his strike chosen on the night ahead of four other short-listed goals by the 900 guests at the awards ceremony in Park Lane, London.
His sublime volley on the turn was initially short-listed by judges then voted into the top five via a public vote on Soccer AM before being chosen on the night as the winner.
The 23-year-old has scored 11 goals in 35 appearances for the Robins this season.
