Bristol City slash the prices for children in bid to beat recession
Bristol City have announced recession-busting price cuts for children.
The Championship club plan to slash home match-day prices for Under-16s by a minimum of £5 per ticket, starting with the visit of Sheffield United on Saturday, November 28.
It means youngsters who also take out a club membership can, in future, watch games at Ashton Gate for as little as £8.
The move, which is aimed at encouraging more families to attend Championship football in BS3, comes against a depressing backdrop of continuing recession and falling attendance and will offer supporters welcome financial relief as Christmas approaches.
Group managing director Doug Harman said: "As a club we are actively doing all we can to attract more families to Ashton Gate and this move underlines our commitment in this area.
"We have set the new rates so they do not undermine existing season-card prices and, with this in mind, will continue to review the situation and listen to feedback from fans as we look ahead to the 2010/11 season and beyond.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our young fans and their families for the wonderful support they have shown Bristol City Football Club so far this season – we look forward to seeing them and their friends throughout the rest of the current campaign."
Although crowds are down on last season's average, the figures have to be viewed in perspective. Many of the Championship's most attractive teams have yet to visit Ashton Gate this term, while Peterborough, Scunthorpe and Blackpool, clubs with relatively small travelling support, have already been and gone.
City media officer Adam Baker said: "Crowds may be a little down on last season, but we are confident things will improve between now and May.
"These price cuts ought to help, while sides like Newcastle, West Brom, Cardiff, Swansea and Nottingham Forest all still have to come here."
Revised prices for under-16s are as follows: Membership prices (available in advance only) – Atyeo/Williams (Block L) £8; Dolman (Blocks A-B,F-N)/Williams (A-K) £10, Dolman (Blocks C-E) £1. General sale – Atyeo/Williams (Block L) £10; Dolman (Blocks A-B,F-N)/Williams (A-K) £12, Dolman (Blocks C-E) £13
