Bristol City have signed Southampton striker Stern John on loan until January.

The 31 year-old passed a medical at Ashton Gate this morning and will go straight into the squad for tomorrow's match at Barnsley.

City boss Gary Johnson said of the former Birmingham City and Coventry City striker: "He's got good experience and has scored goals at this level and above throughout his career.

"He certainly adds to our striking options for what is a very busy period leading up to Christmas.

“Cracking signing. A proven Championship goal scorer who bagged 20 last season in a struggling side - we would have been mad to turn down the opportunity to sign such a player.

Although we have 6 strikers on the books, Brooker is continually injured and Akinde is still very raw. Expecting Adebola to play 46 games is also a big ask, so to get in an experienced finisher such as John is an excellent addition.”
