Wilson is in Bristol for talks and, if a deal can be concluded in time, he will travel north with City's first team squad for Saturday's npower Championship clash with Middlesbrough.
Although Liverpool paid out an intial £2m to bring Wilson from Glasgow Rangers to Anfield in 2010, the Livingstone-born defender has struggled to make an impact, making just eight first-team appearances for the Reds.

Behind Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel, Jamie Carragher, Sebastian Coates and Andre Wisdom in the Liverpool pecking order, Wilson has not played a competitive senior game since Brendan Rodgers took over as manager in the summer.
But he has featured regularly for Liverpool's unbeaten Under-21 side this season and is ready to go straight into City's team if selected.
Wilson came through the youth ranks at Rangers and made his professional debut in a League Cup tie against Dundee in October 2009. He made 26 first team appearances in all for the Ibrox club and was named Scottish PFA Young Player of the Year in 2010.
He joined Liverpool in July 2010, signing a three-year deal, and made his senior debut in a League Cup tie against Northampton Town two months later.
Wilson also featured in a Europa League clash with Sparta Prague and made his Premier League debut in a 3-1 defeat at West Ham United in February 2011.
Unable to break into Liverpool's first team, he spent the second half of last season on loan at Blackpool, making 10 appearances and helping the Seasiders make the Championship play-off final.
He represented Scotland at under-19 and under-21 levels and was promoted to the senior squad by Craig Levein, making his full debut in a 3-0 friendly victory over Faroe Islands in November 2010.

“@THEIRONS:
In terms of midfield we need a holding midfielder ala Cisse & a creative one ala Tinnion.
I would hold on to Skuse and sell all the others. If the incoming ones are of good quality, Skuse could do a fine job at RB in a defence of Skuse-Bates-Wilson D-Cunningham.Now, that might just drag us out of the mire.”

“@ CharlesBridge:
So paying over £1m in wages for Elokobi & McManus isn't backing the manager?
Decent Wages for Briggs & Bates
So spending £2.5m on Baldock, Davies & Cunningham then backing that with wages of over £2.25mpa, isn't backing the manager.
Come of it!!”

“We need help, I welcome this signing, should have gone for qulity in July. I bet the smart suits will soon be buying us some players in January so that we can give the awaym for nothing soon after.
I almost in shock that the halfwits in the Boardroom are actually backing the manager with cash, I had expected them to play the skint card having squandered so much through utter incompetence with jolly frollics like the Pitman saga!”

“Damned if you do & Damned if you don't - Who'd want to be a manager.
Some of the negativity on the site is unbelievable, this has to be a good move, a very good young player who will probably play his butt off to prove himself.
Put in a couple of our young hopefuls in with him & who knows what they could achieve.
Great move DM & SL, thankyou.

“Sometimes I find the comments made by City fans beyond belief.
This is a great signing. This is further proof that Steve continues to support the club he loves. Why not just be delighted that we have another defender who is likely to be better than what we have? Why not focus on the positives of what our club is doing to get us out of the poo?
And Vonner...... if he was in any Premiership side as a regular- guess what? We wouldn't get him!!...... or do you think Harry Rednapp and Joe Jordan are just about to arrive as well?
Some posters here only post if there's something bad to say.Gas fans have the same problem.... only worse....cos they're the gas.”

“Now the collection of Centre backs has been completed. It should now be time for BCFC to concentrate where it matters most the midfield , your club is in need of a holding midfielder to help protect that defence pity no approach to bring in Fringpong from Arsenal was made, he has now gone to Charlton .There is a lad called Essen who could fill the creative Midfield role at Arsenal who you may be able to secure on a loan deal, if you do not ask you do not get.”

“If he's struggling to get in Liverpool's first team, then perhaps we can buy him for a lot of money and flog him for next to nothing in a couple of years time ? That's the way to do it !”

“Yes Roy - a quick glance at that headline and you would think that!
Looks like we are putting together a Wilson XI - think I will see if I can get my labrador Wilson a game...”
