It read: "Bristol City Football Club tonight announces the departure of manager Derek McInnes.

The Board of Directors met in the aftermath of tonight's 4-0 home defeat to Leicester City and have acted to relieve McInnes of his duties."

City's managing director for football, Jon Lansdown, said: "This is a decision we felt we had to make for the good of the football club.

"Derek has been a pleasure to work with; he's disappointed but he understands the decision.

"We want to give ourselves the best possible chance of getting out of the situation we are currently in and we've got 20 games to do that."

The club will make no further statement before Monday, when directors will outline their plans for the immediate future at a 10am press conference at Ashton Gate.

“Even if they got in Jose Mourinho with all his backroom staff City are still a side that, with their current squad, would be top half League 1. The club needs a root and branch overhaul. It seems to me that their best players would be journeymen back-ups in other Championship teams.”

“I'd never left a game early until DM was the manager. 20-20 hindsight, he should have gone after the Remembrance day game, undoubtedly the worst game I've ever attended.

The person coming in, probably should be given a short term contract till end of season with a promise that if they keep us up, he gets the job. We just don't need a manger who's been employed on a knee jerk as it has misery written all over it.

I'm in two minds about keeping on DMs back room boys. I just don't think it will work.

This is a defining week for the club and someone on the board has to step up to the plate and sort this pile of cac out.”

Steve Cotterill is currently at QR. Left field appointments for me may be Pater Taylor (no longer with Bahrain) or Ray Wilkins”

“Can I throw a surprise name into the ring?

    STEVE COTTERILL.

Currently out of work, has form in the Championship, and has been interested in the BCFC vacancy in the past.

He'd jumped at the chance to come aboard and throw a few "hand granades" around. About time too as a few players need a bomb up their ass ....”

    “redferryman1 - I like your optimism but I'm a realist.

You have made the comparison with last season but we have a weaker squad than then! The team and Board have reduced the support fromm the fans with so many voicing their disgust with what has been served up in the shirt. Confidence all round is shot through and I see no 180 degree turn around.

Praying will not help too. There is no way that we can turn round this team who have yet to keep a clean sheet all season long. Albert is way and so where will any penetration come from? Fontaine is a walking disaster and this tale of woe can go on and on.

We're not down yet but like a 'past his best' boxer we are struggling on the ropes and about to be KO'd.

We would need a manager of the calibre of Brian Clough to turn this around. I see no man like that coming here! By the time the Board get into gear some more matches will have passed by and our fate will be well and truly sealed!

In the meantime who in their right mind would want to pay to watch the rubbish being served up if they were not holding a season ticket?

    Brutal but a true!”

“Monday 10am we will be told that we will shortly be announcing plans at a time yet to be advised when we hope that we might be able to announce a possible man who might consider coming to Ashton Gate provided that......

I am not holding my breath for any meaningful announcement. They have sat on their hands for so long that it will take some time for our Board to extract their hands from their orifices!”

    “@CiderheadNott:

    I agree 100% on recruitment & timing.

This core of decent players must have had a day off today and if we do go down the different FFP regs in League One will see the exit of:

Stead, Baldock, Davies, Heaton, Skuse & Cunningham due to wages having to be a % of income and their requirements. We won't be able to rid ourselves of Fontaine, Kilkenny, Pearson etc due to well paid contracts-Double Whammy.

Skuse & Elliott are rumoured to be leaving in this window, so let's see.

    @Toxic:

Levein is Del's mate-Although, as he's never managed in the NPC, he'll probably be considered ideal!”
