Bristol City defender Jamie McAllister is hoping his season will not end at Burnley this weekend.

The Scotland international left back is desperate to rid himself of his one-cap wonder tag.

A regular in the national squad in recent years, McAllister has been unable to add to his solitary appearance against Trinidad & Tobago.

But a good performance for Scotland B against their Northern Ireland counter-parts next week could propel the former Hearts of Midlothian man back into firm contention.

The B international takes place at the Broadwood Stadium, in Cumbernauld, next Wednesday.

McAllister said: "I spoke to the gaffer (George Burley) when I was away last time and he said I would get my chance with the full squad.

"He said this game was coming up and he said did I want to be involved and I said it is up to yourself.

"If I want to play I can and hopefully I will be fit after the end of the season.

"I am keen to add to my one cap. I have been in the last few squads and there or thereabouts but he said just keep doing what I am doing and that is all I can do."

McAllister admits Bristol City's season has been a disappointment because he feels the squad was capable of making the Championship play-offs.

"We have got a good enough squad in the dressing room to succeed and be in the top six and I am sure everyone at the club feels the same," he said.

"The last few games have been disappointing. We will look forward to next year and hopefully we can get automatic promotion.

"March this year – as well as last year – has cost us. We won one in eight. Overall we started slowly, had a great period in December and January but overall we are new to the Championship and we have shown we can compete at the top two seasons in a row."

McAllister believes City have become victims of their own success last season.

"Teams come to Ashton Gate and play differently now," he said.

"They respect how good a side we are. We will take those positives into next season and try to go one better."
