Bristol City boss Johnson gets Carling Cup deja vu
Bristol City boss Gary Johnson is hoping history repeats itself when the Robins visit Brentford for their Carling Cup opener in August.
And Bristol Rovers' director of football Lennie Lawrence wants the Pirates' first-round clash at home to Aldershot to be the start of another lucrative cup run for his side.

Both clubs are expected to launch their League Cup campaigns on Tuesday, August 11 – with Bristol City's visit to Griffin Park a repeat of their first-round clash two seasons ago, which the visitors won 3-0 thanks to Marvin Elliott's opener and a Phil Jevons double.
"It's a good game to have and there's an element of deja vu from a few seasons back – hopefully we can get the same result," said Johnson.
"Andy Scott has done a fantastic job at Brentford, guiding them to the League Two title last season. We also let them borrow James Wilson during that campaign – so we know who our chief scout will be for that fixture!"
Johnson launched his managerial spell with City at Griffin Park in September 2005 – and returned with three points.
"Brentford away brings back good memories for me," admitted Johnson. "It was the venue for my first game in charge of the club – and I remember that game like it was yesterday.
"I remember the club was down at that point and I had to gee-up the players, who I had only just met, and then get them to bond with the supporters. We won a thrilling game 3-2."
Rovers will be facing their first Carling Cup meeting with the Shots. The clubs last met in the FA Cup in 2001 when Rovers triumphed 1-0 in a first-round replay thanks to a goal from Latvian international Vitalijs Astafjevs.
Lawrence said: "We've had some good cup runs in the past – but last season was dreadful because we went out in the first round in all competitions. We need to do better next season.
"No disrespect to Aldershot, but we will be at home to a League Two club and although games like this are always a potential banana skin, it is a tie that gives us a realistic chance of progressing. It's certainly one we want to win.
"The league is obviously going to be our priority but we will be very disappointed if we don't progress."
Both Bristol City and Bristol Rovers will find out their league programme for next season today with the publication of the new fixtures.
