Bristol City chairman Steve Lansdown has paid tribute former Bristol Rovers chairman Ron Craig who has passed away.

Mr Craig had been suffering from a short term illness and died yesterday after being on the board at Bristol Rovers for more than 20 years.

He spent 16 months as chairman from April 2007 and enjoyed promotion to League One at the same time as Bristol City secured elevation to the Championship.

"Although a member of our local rivals, Ron Craig was always a great ambassador and servant to football in Bristol," said Lansdown in a statement released on the club's website.

"Although we knew Ron had been ill for some time, it's always a shock when someone passes away.

"Ron was always friendly to us and very easy to deal with. He will be very sadly missed on the Bristol football scene.

"Our thoughts go out to his family at this time."
