BRISTOL City are believed to be among the clubs interested in signing goalkeeper Tom Heaton from Cardiff City.

City are on the lookout for another goalkeeper following the decision to release veteran David James, who lost his first-team place to Dean Gerken in the closing weeks of the season.

Burnley and Sheffield Wednesday, who are managed by former Cardiff boss Dave Jones, are also thought to be keen on recruiting former England Under-21 goalkeeper Heaton, pictured..

He was the Welsh club's second choice in Championship games this season, behind David Marshall, but played throughout Cardiff's Carling Cup campaign, which ended with a penalty shoot-out defeat to Liverpool in the final at Wembley.

Heaton, 26, was Cardiff's hero in the penalty shoot-out victory over Crystal Palace in the semi-final and produced another fine performance in the final.

Although Cardiff are keen for Heaton to stay, it is thought he will look elsewhere in search of regular first-team action.

Heaton came through the ranks at Manchester United and has played for several clubs on loan, including Swindon and QPR.

“As I said recently...'Welcome to the Silly Season!'

But, then again, the BEP's version of the 'Silly Season' is often a seamless continuum from the Real Season that they write about!!! Indeed, sometimes their idea of 'journalism' is as entertaining as the contents of the articles they write...err, or should that read 'articles that they plagiarise'?”
