Bristol City hope to sign Brett Pitman
Bristol City today moved to redress their striker shortage by signing Brett Pitman from League One newcomers Bournemouth.
The 22-year-old Jersey-born forward has agreed terms and the deal, believed to be worth £800,000 in total, is subject to him passing a medical examination at Ashton Gate on Monday.
Left out of the Bournemouth side at Tranmere today, Pitman looked set to complete a move to Premier League new boys Blackpool in the week, only for the deal to collapse on Thursday.
Bournemouth accepted an offer in the region of £600,000 for the striker, who travelled north to discuss personal terms with Seasiders manager Ian Holloway.
But the pair were unable to agree a deal, prompting City to make their move.
Pitman boasts an impressive goal-scoring ratio in the lower leagues, having netted 62 times in 197 for the Cherries, who were promoted from League Two at the end of last season.
He began the season in fine style, netting a hat-trick inside 16 minutes against Peterborough United last weekend.
Keith Millen’s first signing as City manager is expected to feature in Tuesday’s behind-closed-doors practice match against Aldershot and will be included in the squad for the first time when the Robins travel to play Ipswich at Portman Road next Saturday.
Millen named an unchanged side for today's npower Championship clash with Barnsley at Ashton Gate.
City (4-2-3-1): James; Hunt, Stewart, Fontaine, McAllister; Skuse, Elliott; Sproule, Clarkson, Campbell-Ryce; Adomah. Subs: Carey, Johnson, Gerken (gk), G Williams, Akinde, Jackson, T Williams.
Barnsley (4-5-1): Steele; Hassell, Foster, Shackell, McEveley; Tripper, Colace, Lovre, Arismendi, Hammill; Gray. Subs: Doyle, Hume, Devaney, Preece, Neumann, Butterfield, Bennett (gk).

“Very happy with the Pitman signing assuming he will pass his medical. Ian Holloway said no matter what league you are in if you can score goals you can do it in any league,I have just watched his goals on you tube and I am surprised that other clubs have not snapped him up, he is a fantastic finisher. John Stead if he signs will be a brilliant addition, played in the prem and have a lot of assist's. However I must admit to be very worried about the defence, Barnsley went through the middle of us like a hot knife through butter and something needs to be done there. Left back is required asap. In Milly we trust..”

“Both Stead and Pitman turn their backs on Premier League sides because They want more money or better personal terms. Sorry but you have just played into the hands of greedy agents and players. You now have to watch your finances and you have been had. They will have no loyalty to Bristol City and when a better offer comes it will be BYE BYE”

“Kieth Millen was interviewed on radio Bristol around 6pm this evening and admitted both Pitman and Stead will sign on Monday.
The fact that both players could have gone to the premiership gives some indication of BCFC's standing in the game at this current time. This of course is down to Steve Lansdown's willingness to back the club.Since signing David James the club has been acknowledged as a progressive entity in the media (talksport et al).
Hopefully the results will follow soon enough and i for one believe that it wont be for the lack effort from the chairman, board and manager.”

But we pay £800000 is someone doctoring the fee or are we plain stupid!!!”
