Bristol City goalkeeper Weale signs for Leicester City
Bristol City goalkeeper Chris Weale has today finally laid to rest speculation on his future by signing for League One champions Leicester City.
Foxes manager Nigel Pearson has snapped up the 27-year-old on a pre-contract agreement ensuring Weale will continue to ply his trade in the Coca-Cola Championship next season.
Pearson said: "Chris is a player who we have monitored and has been on our wish-list for quite a while now.
"He has had limited opportunities at Bristol City and, following a successful loan period at Yeovil, we are delighted to secure his services. He is desperate to succeed here at Leicester and we believe he has the ability and the mental strength to do just that."
Weale, out of contract at Bristol City, has been restricted in his appearances since arriving at Ashton Gate in 2006 due to the form of the club's first-choice Brazilian keeper Adriano Basso and a succession of injuries.
He had previously spent five years at Yeovil Town and returned to Huish Park on loan at the end of last season.
Weale's performances helped the Glovers remain in League One and he even headed a late equaliser to earn them a 2-2 draw at home to Hereford. His strike won Sky Sports' 'Goal of the Week' ahead of the likes of Robinho and Fernando Torres.
Leicester's Australian keeper Paul Henderson has just been released by the club which has struggled to find consistency in that position.
Last season the Foxes used six goalies: Henderson, David Martin, Carl Pentney, Mark Bunn, Tony Warner and David Stockdale.
Martin, Bunn and Stockdale have returned to Liverpool, Blackburn and Fulham respectively although Stockdale has said he would "jump at the chance" of returning to the Walkers Stadium.
