Bristol City goalkeeper Dean Gerken was arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure on a night out – and given an on-the-spot fine by police for using threatening words and behaviour in public.

The Evening Post has learned that the 24-year-old, who played in City's 3-2 win at Barnsley on Saturday, got into trouble near College Green in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A member of the public told the Post he saw Gerken arrested after walking up Park Street, near the Antix bar, while allegedly exposing himself and urinating.

Avon and Somerset police spokeswoman Claire Stanley said: "I can confirm that police arrested a 24-year-old man at around 2.25am on Sunday, October 25, in the vicinity of College Green.

"He was arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure and taken to a police station.

"He was later released after being issued with a fixed penalty notice for the use of threatening words and behaviour.

"No further action was taken over the allegations of indecent exposure."

A club spokesman said: "As far as the club is concerned this matter has already been dealt with internally. The player has apologised for his actions and the club has issued its own punishment. The matter is now closed."

Gerken joined Bristol City from Colchester in June on a two-year deal, for an undisclosed fee.

He soon set his sights on challenging Adriano Basso for the keeper's jersey after Basso put in a transfer request.

When he joined the club, Gerken said: "I want to play at the highest level possible,

"I had two good seasons at Championship level with Colchester before and now I want to play in the Championship again.

"I'm over the moon with the move. It's a massive club that plays good football.

"The players always look like they enjoy their football here."

“Pure utter Class from another over paid and underworked footballer, should be sacked and flogged in the city centre to show him the error of his ways, what an utter disgrace. Bristol City fans , enduring of the money grabbing under performing behaviour of their so called stars should just walk the other way and save their money to spend on their familes, rather than flush it down the rat infested gutter that is associated with these scum back festering maggots known as "professional" word used advisedly ....... footballers.”
