Bristol City fan's view by Matthew Withers
Bristol City's home game against Watford tomorrow night is going to be a big test of Gary Johnson's management skills.
Since his appointment, Gary has done little wrong in the eyes of the majority of Bristol City fans but recent results and performances have led to a fair number of fans questioning his team selection, formation and tactics.
I am a massive Gary Johnson fan and believe he is absolutely the man for the job, however, I have followed this club for over 34 years and no one is untouchable or without reproach. At the moment we are not performing anywhere near like the standards we set last season and the tactics that are being used are in my view slightly negative and based on not conceding as opposed to scoring goals.
I don't agree with the tactic of playing one up front especially at home. We have striking options in Adebola, Maynard, Trundle, Brooker, Akinde and John but it is the supply to the forwards, which is the biggest problem. We do not have a creative enough midfield to provide the ammunition to the strikers and this has to be addressed.
If we played one up front but had midfielders and wide players bombing on to support, the tactic may work and may be entertaining but we don't and it isn't.
At the moment Gary is not picking the best team that is available. I accept that there is a view that a winning side should not be changed, however, we have not been winning.
Gary has promised changes for tomorrow and I hope that these changes are throughout the team and not just the obvious changes at the back. I fully expect Louis Carey and Jamie McAllister to be recalled but other changes are also needed.
I am not sure what is going on at the moment. There is no doubt that the side is lacking confidence and as we all know in football a few wins will breed confidence and can make a group of ordinary players look world beaters. At the moment the players seem to lack motivation and in a lot of games are slow to start.
We have to get more creativity in the side both in the middle of the pitch and on the flanks. There are a number of players who have been given enough opportunity and have not delivered and Gary needs to look to the loan market or even the youngsters to try and solve the problem. I know that Gary believes in his squad but we have to face facts – they are just not doing the business.

“Totally Spot on Article which sums up totally what many are saying.
4-5-1 doesn't work unless you have quality midfielders. We Don't
Gary needs to start playing his best team and pick players based on form, not based on loyalty over what they have done in the past.
We are playing negative football and it's only a matter of time until the crowds dwindle again.
Please Sort it out Gary before more people lose faith in you.,”

“I am staggered by this article. Right now Gary and the team needs our support, not veiled threats about nobody being "untouchable". We might not agree with every decision but that is life, and supporting each other is what being part of a team is all about. It is very easy to sing "City till I die" and "We always believe" when we are winning, please lets all stand together through this sticky patch. Does anybody believe Gary and the team are not trying their hardest? Does anybody have any track record to suggest thay could do better? United we stand, divided we are nothing”
