Bristol City fan Matt Withers: Last week I asked for a performance of heart and passion from the City players, feeling that this was the least that they owed following the debacle of the last home performance.

Well aside from one or two, I am not sure that we got that and unfortunately, it was very much a case of same old, same old. I really am trying to stay positive, but we dropped another two points at home, against a very poor Coventry City side. We had the lion's share of possession throughout the game and yet only caused the Coventry keeper Keiren Westwood problems of any note in the last 10 minutes.

Walking out of the ground, half a dozen different fans asked me how I was going to write anything about the game in this week's column. The truth is, this game was so much like the majority of others at Ashton Gate this season, it's starting to feel like 'Groundhog Day' at the gate.

The loss of Jamal Campbell-Ryce in the warm-up won't have helped preparations, but with a plan in hand, why not replace Jamal with a similar type of player in Ivan Sproule instead of what Gary actually did, playing Evander Sno? Sproule gave a man of the match performance in the 4-2 win against Preston North End a couple of weeks ago but has not started a game since.

City started well and used the possession well in the first two-thirds of the field but lacked that clever pass or individual piece of skill to open up the Coventry defence. I don't imagine that Ashton Gate is the nicest of places to play when things aren't going well, and some of the fans are on your back, but the players need to take individual responsibility and do their job, winning their individual battles.

The players are obviously lacking in confidence and some treat the ball like a hot potato, keen to pass it on to someone else or launch it long.

There are some tactics which I still don't understand – why does Dean Gerken continually launch the ball long? The defenders are all reasonably comfortable on the ball and we have some quality midfielders, so why can't they take the ball from the keeper and play it through the middle?

We bring on Sproule, who immediately runs at the Coventry defence and yet we don't get the ball to him often enough.

Patrick Ageymang has shown nothing in his three appearances so far that I don't believe John Akinde could have given us. In fact, Akinde's raw, youthful exuberance may give you that bit more.

With the lack of excitement on the pitch, the atmosphere in the stadium has been somewhat apathetic.

Performance and fans' reaction go hand in hand – if the players show the commitment and passion on the pitch, then the fans will do the same off it. To that end, if the fans encourage the players then they should raise their game.

We have two tough away fixtures at Watford and Sheffield United and we need to come back with something from both games, if we don't I fear that we may start to look over our shoulders rather than focusing on what's in front of us.
