Bristol City defender Bradley Orr is out of Saturday's Coca-Cola Championship showdown against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.

And the long-serving right-back may also miss next week's home game against Sheffield United after failing to recover from a persistent Achilles tendon problem.

The Liverpudlian has not played since being injured during the first half of City's 3-2 win at Barnsley on October 24.

He was expected to return to full-time training this week, only to suffer a setback when it was discovered the injury was worse than originally feared.

City manager Gary Johnson said: "Brad's recovery is taking longer than we thought it would.

"We had hoped that he would be back in training and in contention for the West Brom game this week, but that has not happened.

"He was still feeling his Achilles and lower calf on Monday morning and the medics decided he needed longer (to recover).

"It is likely he will be out of action for at least seven to 10 days. No one is more disappointed than Brad, because he thought he was on the way back."

Having already missed games against Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest, Orr had a cortisone injection earlier this week in a bid to remedy the problem.

Johnson added: "The doctor is confident the injection will do the job and that no further treatment will be required.

"It's inflammation in the Achilles which is causing his calf to hurt and we just have to wait for the injection to take effect and for the swelling to go down.

"Then it will be a matter of resting for a few days before returning to light training."

Cole Skuse will again deputise on the right side of defence against Albion and Johnson said: "He is more than just an option for us in that position.

"Cole is a very good player and he has come in and done an excellent job. He will very likely be involved again on Saturday."

Meanwhile, Bristol City's experienced left-back, Jamie McAllister, has recovered from the groin strain which forced him to limp off towards the end of the game at Nottingham Forest.

Johnson said: "Jamie is fine now. He had a week off, but is now back training with the other lads."
