“We came up against him last season with Blackpool and I saw him playing for Rangers against my St Johnstone team before that.
“He’s had a frustrating time at Liverpool with chances limited. We thank Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool for accommodating this move.
“He’s now got a chance to impose himself on our team and show what he can do. We’ve a lot of games to play between now and January, and with the absence of Lewin Nyatanga and Stephen McManus to injury, Danny’s arrival is timely.”
The youngster began his career with Scottish Premier League side Rangers, where he came through the youth ranks and was a regular captain of their Under-19s.
He played 26 times for the Gers before moving on to Liverpool in 2010 for a transfer fee of £2m.
After nine appearances for the Merseyside club, mainly in European action, Wilson was loaned out to Blackpool in December 2011.
In total he played ten times during his spell with the Seasiders, returning back to Anfield before the end of the season.
With chances restricted in the Premier League, Wilson now has the opportunity to enjoy regular football again during a loan stint at Ashton Gate.
Despite his young age, Wilson is already a full international defender for Scotland, with five caps to his name.
The deal is subject to Football League approval, with Wilson being handed squad number 40.
