Bristol City manager Gary Johnson admits Brian Wilson will not be playing again anytime soon.

The Bristol City boss has been without his utility player since October after the versatile wide man suffered a broken shin bone.

Initially the former Cheltenham Town man was only supposed to be sidelined for about two months.

But rather than a Christmas return, Johnson is left merely to hope Wilson will be back 'before the end of the season'.

"Brian is a long lost soul at the moment because of the heavy injury he has had and the big operations he has had," said the manager.

"He needs time to get himself back to fitness and we are hoping it will be before the end of the season, but it was a big injury and we just have to keep our fingers crossed for him."

With right-back Bradley Orr injured recently, Wilson would have been in line to play several games. But instead Wilson is still on a long road to full recovery.

"There are a lot of things going on. The injury recovers but the rehabilitation is what takes the time to get back to the fitness he was before the injury.

"The medical staff haven't told me how he is recently but at the moment he is still a long way off."

Bristol City are back in action on Boxing Day when they bid to improve on Saturday's 1-1 draw at Reading when they travel to Queens Park Rangers.

“regrettably, like his manager, brian is not up to this standard of football.

lansdown must be seriously tempted to get on the phone to Curbishley or Coppell.”

“Brian is a decent player - more than capable of playing in the Championship - probably not the spark of a midfield dynamo you need to win the league but a good squad player nonetheless.

If we've got a fit Wilson we've another player we can call upon to help us break the current mediocre form - get well soon Bri.”

“You read it here first, but Alan Curbishley has been looking at homes in the Bristol area.

    Wonder why?

    in Sexstone we trust.”

“Brian Wilson comes over as a nice lad and I will remember him for his contribution during the latter half of our promotion season whereby he played a good part in the run in. But he is not a Championship standard player and Johnson¿s misguided loyalty to him and a couple of others from that season is a part of the reason why we are stagnating and the fans are disgruntled. I wish you well in the future Brian, and hope you can continue your career. But it will not be with us.”
