Bristol City are closing in on the signing of Crawley Town defender Kyle McFadzean.

The Robins tabled an undisclosed six-figure bid for the 25-year-old centre-back last Wednesday and negotiations are still on-going.

But manager Derek McInnes has revealed the two clubs are close to agreeing a deal which would make McFadzean City's second new recruit in January following the arrival on Thursday of Kilmarnock midfielder Liam Kelly.

Speaking in the aftermath of Saturday's crushing 4-0 home defeat to Championship promotion hopefuls Leicester City, McInnes told The Post: "I think the club are pretty close to getting something agreed.

"Obviously, it has not been concluded yet but, hopefully, we will have some good news on that.

"He is the type of centre-back that I think will be very important to us and I'm hoping it can be done.

"But until it is, I'm reluctant to speak too much about it until I know for sure what the situation is."

McFadzean is still recovering from an injury and did not travel with the Crawley squad that lost 2-0 at League One leaders Tranmere Rovers this weekend.

The Post understands negotiations are now at an advanced stage and the 6ft 1in defender could be on board in plenty of time for next Saturday's Championship showdown with Leeds United at Elland Road.

“If he signs, we only need another CB & Creative Midfielder providing Skuse stays with both he & Elliott rumoured to be leaving.

McFadzean probably won't be fit for another two weeks, then to get match fit, say, 2-3 weeks, so we should have him in the side at the end of Feb by which time we wcould be relegated.

That being said,a handy player in League One next season if the worse comes to the worse.”
