Bristol City manager Gary Johnson insists it is not too late for star defender Bradley Orr to undergo a change of heart.

The popular right-back effectively called time on his Ashton Gate career when refusing to sign a new contract earlier this week.

Manager Johnson immediately placed the 25-year-old Scouser on the transfer list and invited offers for a player who is out of contract at the end of the season.

But City's boss today left the door open for Orr should he wish to stay.

"Although we've done what we've done, it's not too late for Bradley to change his mind," said Johnson.

"The door is never completely closed and, if he came to me and said he wanted to stay, then of course I'd listen."

City are prepared to sell Orr during the January transfer window rather than allow him to become a free agent and leave for nothing next summer.

Johnson said: "We've a business to run and, if anyone comes in for Bradley, then we need to try and make some money.

"But that situation could still change if Brad decides he wants to sign his contract. You can never say never."

However, Orr is convinced he can land a better deal elsewhere and Johnson fears the chances of him performing a U-turn are slim.

He revealed: "Having talked with Bradley about this, I don't think he's going to change his mind.

"All our meetings have been amicable and there is no resentment on either side, but he seems determined to move and believes now is the time to do it."

Orr was not included in City's first-team squad for today's Sky-televised Coca-Cola Championship game against Preston North End at Deepdale.

His place in the starting line-up was taken by Brian Wilson for the midweek home game with Watford and the Mancunian can now expect an extended run at right-back.

Johnson said: "Brian has always said right-back is his best position and we feel he can do a good job for us there.

"We have other options, but it looks as though Brian will now be given a run of games to prove himself."

But Johnson will seek to sign another right-sided defender in January.

He said: "I'll look to bring someone else in. It's important Bristol City has specialist cover for what is a key position."
