Bristol City: McInnes knows transfer targets
Bristol City manager Derek McInnes is looking to strengthen his squad in all areas ahead of next season.
Having kept the Robins in the Championship and released eight players to make room for new signings, the Scot is now working his way through a long list of potential transfer targets.

His stated priority is to address certain long-standing imbalances in the squad and bring in players who offer something different from those already on the Ashton Gate staff.
The Press understands McInnes wants to recruit a goalkeeper to provide competition for Dean Gerken following the departure of former number one David James at the end of last season.

He is also in the market for a left-back and a right-sided centre-half, a creative midfielder and a striker.
Although City have already been linked with a number of players in the media, according to McInnes, new arrivals are not imminent.
Yet the manager is working behind the scenes and hopes to recruit a number of new faces before the players report back for pre-season training.
He said: "We have made plenty of inquiries and I'm doing my work trying to get the right types in. We want to get a number of positions sorted before the next season.
"I'm realistic enough to know we will not get all of our targets, but, hopefully, we will bring in a few to improve us.
"There is a lot of work done under the radar to bring in the players we need, but you have to be patient.
"Hopefully, we will be able to bring in the right ones during the summer.
"We have had a few players put our way from countries who are at the Euros and we are looking at that particular market.
"We are looking for types different from those we have already. We want a goalkeeper, a couple of defenders, a couple of midfielders and a striker as well. We are looking to strengthen right across the board."
McInnes intends to build around key contracted players Liam Fontaine, Cole Skuse, Marvin Elliott and Albert Adomah.

“medley1949 - Are you another one with a half empty glass, never half full.
Cmon give Dmac a chance, at a time when everything is in limbo you can't expect too much.
By all means be critical (because I doubt you'll give praise) when you know the recruits.
Until then we all wait in anticipation and trust Dmac to make the decisions City needs.”

“@ gdknac
Yes, I think Gordon cost Sunderland about £150k a game based on his very rare appearances due to continued injury.Sounds ideal.”

Er...a quick browse on most of the transfer websites would indicate that most players are on holiday at the moment, a lot of retained-lists are being compiled by clubs and those players who may have been released and /or who have not been offered improved contracts by their parent clubs are probably weighing-up their options! Plenty of reasons for a lack of transfer activity at the moment.
Apart from those few players who had been long-standing transfer targets of certain clubs, the lack of activity is probably the same with most clubs at the present!! In fact, we are still in the middle of the Play-Off Finals ! Blimey, even managers, agents and players need a break.....and YOU, medley1949, need to give McInness a break, too! There is ALWAYS someone who wants to get on his case!!! Get a grip!
Use your (clearly limited) imagination! Do you follow footie much?”

“I seem to have heard this same old line of manager palm off jargon with the last two managers
and now DM is giving us the clap trap.Plenty of work going on behind the scenes but no players
imminent his words.I can see whats comming next make a couple of lower league signed players and then back in the loan market. We can all see that we need five or six good class players that have been there and performed to a good standerd and those players need to be signed early well before the season starts so as we are up and running, DM just ask around what are pre season was like last year.”

“IMO I think we would be better off looking at the upper tier of talent within the NPC and lower half of the Premiership, looking in the lower leagues or north of the border can work but there is no room for error if the signings from lower leagues don't work out.
We must show our ambition by the strength of the signings we can make. You pay peanuts you get monkeys (most of the time).
As for buying off Cheltenham Town....come on, surely we can do better than that?”

“@manchester gas
i think if you look at barnet's league position when we signed adomah......
quality players with potential can often come from ''poor'' teams. that's where good scouting comes in.”

“marmeliser, you must be joking.
Chelt are an average lge 2 team, who have done well this season. (Yes, and before you get your retort in, that DOES make us a below average lge 2 team - lol)
Pack is the only one who could maybe survive higher than Lge 1.
Mohammed is ok on the run but not good enough overall yet, and McGlashan is your typical lower lge winger who needs to work on nearly all aspects of his game and spread a several years getting better before he can move up.”

“might be as well to drive up the m4 to cheltenham and have a look at MARLON PACK and JERMAINE MCGLASHAN, and maybe KAID MOHAMMED as well. the goalkeeper SCOTT BROWN looks useful too
agree about crewe. always known about producing good home grown talent.”
