Bristol City Fan's View: City announce their play-off ambitions
Bristol City fan's view by Matthew Withers: Bristol City well and truly announced their play-off intentions with an impressive win at Reading.
A goal from the very impressive Dele Adebola and a goal dubiously credited to Cole Skuse, although the second goal scorer is debateable, sealed the win.
Over 4,000 Robin's fans made the relatively short trip up the M4 and their influence on the win should not be under stated. From way before kick off until after the final whistle they did not stop singing and bounced around in the away end.
Over the past two seasons City have had a number of impressive wins but this one has to be right up there. Reading are a formidable team with automatic promotion aspirations.
I have previously mentioned that in too many games City have only performed for 45 minutes and whilst this has been enough to take results, it has also been frustrating to watch.
Big Dele Adebola opened the scoring from Michael McIndoe's free kick, rising above Michael Duberry at the back post. Dele has become a key cog in the City team and his power and presence caused Reading problems all afternoon.
Dele's importance was highlighted with his absence in the defeat at Doncaster. Donny ended City's unbeaten run but in many ways City beat themselves. The team just didn't get going and couldn't break down a stubborn Doncaster side.
I would have taken a point at both Donny and Reading and actually thought we would do well to come away with anything. I'm sure even the most optimistic fan would have thought there was more of a chance in picking something up at Doncaster rather than Reading.
The win saw City move into the play off places, ending the day in 4th spot. City's rise up the league has been hugely impressive and whilst teams below them have games in hand we have the points on the board. There is a real togetherness within the team and a real belief.
Whilst promotion is the goal, it is important that we establish ourselves as a real Championship team and with performances like that against Reading we are doing just that.
I have mentioned the impressive Adebola but also think a huge amount of credit has to go to Captain Louis Carey and his fellow defenders. Louis is a City legend and is another player who is playing as well as he has done at any time in his career.
