Bristol Bluebirds represent their city in Richmond
On Sunday May 2, 12 Bristol women drove to Richmond to play in the first single sex softball tournament of the season. The Bristol Bluebirds were: Mandy Lewis; Sarah Pritchard-Williams; Jo Stretton; Amy Yehling; Robyn Belt; Yuki Ono; Tara Dunningham; Amanda Summers; Emma Lattimore; Sarah Pattenden; Tara Welsh and Helen Vintiner.
The Bluebirds started off the day well, with a 13-3 win against the feisty local team, Raidhers.
Captained by Mandy Lewis, the Bluebirds romped to their victory, aided by Jo Stretton's massive hit, resulting in the team's first home run of the day.
Pitcher Tara Dunningham held her own, striking out a couple of the opposition.
The second game of the day saw Amy Yehling and Sarah Pritchard-Williams hit home runs, but despite this and some dramatic catches from Sarah in outfield, the team lost 4-16 to the Madcows, who went on to win the group.
Bluebirds faced the Firebirds in their third match – losing a respectable 5-8.
Amanda Summers' performance shone on second base, getting all the outs in one inning.
The fourth match saw Bluebirds lose 3-10, a close match against Get Your Hits Out.
Robyn Belt was kept active, catching some big hits in leftfield, as was Amy Yehling on third. A disappointing result for a tightly-fought match against the GB player-laden team.
