Bristol Academy gunning for cup glory at Watford
Gary Green is hoping a six-week lay-off won't put Bristol Academy's FA Women's Cup hopes at risk this weekend.
The Gas Girls will make a second attempt to play their fourth round tie at Watford this Sunday.
Originally scheduled for last weekend, the match was called off with the team on their way to Hertfordshire as the fixture became their fourth in a row to fall victim to the weather.
"We're training hard but it's not the same as playing games," said Green, who organised an internal practice match this week to try and keep his players sharp.
"We were on our way to Nottingham Forest in early December when that game was called off, and since then games against Leeds, Everton and now Watford have all been postponed.
"Six weeks is a long time without a match, but the only positive thing is that at least we have a couple more creative players available."
Kerry Bartlett and Gwen Harries are the duo in question, although unlucky Grace McCatty is still waiting to serve a one-match ban she should have got out of the way early last month.
Michelle Green is still missing through injury.
The winners will face a tough home fifth round tie against either Charlton or Birmingham City, but Green said: "We need to beat Watford first before we start thinking about that."
The recent freeze wiped out not only a large proportion of last weekend's cup games, but also the vast majority of the local women's football programme.
But the Gloucestershire County League staged their annual indoor five-a-side tournament with AEK Boco beating Abbeymead and Dursley Town on their way to the final, where they lost 3-2 to runaway Division Two leaders Swindon Supermarine.
