GARY Green admits he is still mystified how Bristol Academy found themselves dumped out of the FA Premier League Cup after suffering a penalty shoot-out defeat at Fulham.

The Gas Girls coach saw the visitors dominate the game against the Londoners, but twice fall behind to goals from Lauren Phillips and Brett Burns, which were cancelled out by Kerry Manley and Corinne Yorston.

After extra-time produced no further goals, Fulham triumphed 4-2 from the spot to set up a derby clash at Chelsea in the third round.

"Fulham had two shots on target in 90 minutes when we drew 2-2 there in the league last month, and they managed two in 120 minutes this time," said Green.

"We had all of the ball over the whole game but lacked a cutting edge to get the goals we should have done. The ball just wouldn't go in for us, but how we lost I'll never know because it was such a one-horse race. It was a very quiet team bus on the way home."

Keynsham Town's Southern Division campaign suffered another blow when they went down 3-1 at home to Colchester United, five days after losing by the same score to Cardiff City.

Frankie Stone put Keynsham ahead from Helen Bleazard's cross, but the Essex side scored all their goals after the break through Kate Longhurst and Hannah Porter (2).

Doubles from Kim Turner and Rachel Edwards gave Yeovil Town a 4-0 win at Weston St Johns in the SW Combination, while Stoke Lane Athletic gained their first win of the season in the SW Women's League Premier Division with a 6-3 victory over the University of Exeter.

Athletic conceded an early goal, but Leanne Jones and Michelle Purse turned things around, although the students equalised before the break.

However, Leanne Ware (penalty), Faye Slade and the outstanding Zoe Hales put Stoke Lane 5-2 up in the second half. Exeter responded with another goal, but substitute Lucy Sparks rounded off a 6-3 win.

There was certainly no shortage of talking points in the 3-3 draw between Cirencester and Oldland Abbotonians in Division One (North).

Cirencester went ahead after five seconds when they scored with a move straight from the kick-off, but Louise Walter headed Oldland level. A goalkeeping error handed the home side the lead again before Gemma Summers made it 2-2.

Oldland's Beth Dale had a goal ruled out by a controversial offside decision before Cirencester went 3-2 up, and the visitors then squandered an opportunity to level when Sarah Clarkson missed a penalty kick for only the second time in her career.

Oldland thought they had levelled again when Vicky Mundy's shot crossed the goal-line before hitting the stanchion and bouncing straight out of the net and into the keeper's arms – but the referee missed it and failed to award the goal.

The drama was completed when Jo Lenton, making her first appearance for 18 months from the bench, equalised with two minutes to go.

Downend Flyers dropped their first points of the season as an own goal earned them a 1-1 draw against Bishops Lydeard.

Yate Town, top of Division One in the Gloucestershire County Women's League, did their goal difference a power of good by demolishing bottom-placed Cheltenham Civil Service 10-0 at Lodge Road. Jo Granger led the way with four goals and there were doubles from Kylie Dursley and Jessica Morgan, with Chantelle Rugman and Georgie Thompson also scoring.

Bitton maintained their unbeaten start in Division Two with a 4-2 win at Mitcheldean. Becky Hurst scored a hat-trick with Laura Tugwell also on target.
