Vixens boss unhappy with Powell's GB selection
Bristol Academy boss Mark Sampson has expressed his astonishment after none of the Vixens' players were included in Great Britain's women's football squad for the Olympics.
GB boss Hope Powell – who also manages the England team – named the final squad of 18 yesterday and it is dominated by English players with only two from Scotland preventing a total Three Lions monopoly.
Controversially, Powell has included no Welsh players at all – with the snubbing of Wales skipper and Bristol midfielder Jess Fishlock arguably the biggest surprise.
The midfielder is Bristol's joint top-scorer this season with four goals and has turned in a string of impressive performances for the Vixens.

"We had three or four players we felt might have had a decent chance of being included in the squad and for none to make it is very disappointing – not only for the girls themselves but also for us as a club," said Sampson.
"But for Jess to be ignored is incredible. She didn't even make the last 35, never mind the final 18 – but if she was English I feel sure she'd be in their team, never mind their squad."
GB squad: Eniola Aluko, Anita Asante, Karen Bardsley, Sophie Bradley, Rachel Brown, Karen Carney, Ifeoma Dieke, Stephanie Houghton, Kim Little, Claire Rafferty, Alex Scott, Jill Scott, Kelly Smith, Casey Stoney, Fara Williams, Rachel Williams, Ellen White, Rachel Yankey. Reserves: Jess Clarke, Emma Higgins, Jane Ross, Dunia Susi.

“same old, same old. it's just like men's footy used to be (it's getting a bit better now). players are choosen on past reputation and club name rather than form or potential.”
