Bristol Academy bid to derail Everton's title challenge
Bristol Academy face what could be their toughest game of the season on Sunday when they travel to Premier League National Division title favourites Everton.
Champions Arsenal's shock 0-0 draw against Doncaster Belles last weekend has left the Merseysiders six points adrift of the Gunners with three games in hand.
Bristol have Justine Lorton, Kerry Bartlett and Katie Daley unavailable and coach Gary Green admitted: "It could be a backs-to-the-wall job for us but we will go their aiming to frustrate Everton.
"The pressure is on them because they still have to play Arsenal and know they have to win their remaining games to be sure of the title."
The Academy have gone six home games without a win after their 2-1 defeat by Leeds Carnegie last weekend. Sue Smith lobbed the visitors in front before the break and Carla Cantrell added a second midway through the second half before Corinne Yorston netted a late penalty for the home side.
Keynsham Town's Southern Division campaign has been disrupted by a crippling injury list, meaning they went into their 4-2 defeat by West Ham barely able to raise a side and had to use three injured players. Central defender Tanja Andjelkovic played in goal, although she aggravated a ligament injury early on.
West Ham were 2-0 up inside 10 minutes, but Ana Bruni pulled a goal back before the Hammers extended their lead.
Bruni suffered broken ribs early in the second half when a couple of players fell on her, and West Ham made it 4-1 before Ashley Reinecke scored again for the visitors.
Assistant boss Steve Lavis is hoping for a reaction from Oldland Abbotonians when they play a local derby against Downend Flyers tonight.
The Abbots were held 1-1 by Swindon Town Reserves last weekend, Vicky Mundy scoring their goal – but the management team were far from happy with the performance.
Bristol & West rounded off their campaign in Division One of the Gloucestershire County Women's League with a 3-0 win over Cheltenham Civil Service.
Jo Edwards, Emma Payne and Trudy Hammond scored the goals.
