BRISTOL Academy Flyers remain level on points with Derby Trailblazer at the top of National League Division One following a comfortable victory over Brixton Topcats.

Five Flyers players scored double-digit points to cap an impressive performance in which Andreas Kapoulas' side negotiated a slow opening ten-minute period before going on to dominate the London side at WISE Campus and end up 93-68 winners.

United States import Doug McLaughlin-Williams, pictured, led the scoring with 22 points.

Roy Owen, meanwhile, produced his best performance since he joined the Flyers in October by scoring 19 points and five assists.

Tyrone Treasure and Davis Bowne weighed in 17 points apiece, while Enrique Garcia notched up ten points and 11 rebounds to help the Flyers keep pace with a Derby side which the Flyers will meet in the National Trophy final in Leicester on Sunday.

"It was a very good team performance in front of a full WISE campus," said Kapoulas.

"The energy in the building was great and our players played very well, especially in the second and third periods of the game.

"We moved the ball well on the offensive end and made very good decisions, which resulted in high-percentage shots.

"Our defence, however, was again an important factor. We kept a talented Brixton side to 45 points in the first three periods of the game and that resulted in us building a big lead, which was too much for them to come back from."

Topcats started the game without the look of a side that had lost their previous three games and managed to end the first period locked at 17-17 with their hosts.

Kapoulas' side, however, raised their game quickly at the start of the second period and a suffocating defensive performance limited Brixton to a 13-point quarter.

The Flyers were ahead 44-30 by half-time, before a devastating run of baskets in the dying stages of the third period saw Kapoulas' side effectively end the game by opening up a 28-point lead, which made the final quarter nothing more than a formality.

Flyers will continue their league title bid with a trip to face Leicester Warriors on Saturday night, before attempting to win the National Trophy at the Braunstone Leisure Centre in the same city on Sunday afternoon.
