Bright Young Students Win Funding for Innovative Art Studio
Room 13 Hareclive is an independent Art Studio in the playground of Hareclive Academy, a Primary School in Hartcliffe, South Bristol. It's run by the children that use it and is a place where they can express themselves, create imaginative artwork and have fun! This is all housed in a RIBA award winning building which has two "Artists in Residence"; Shani Ali and Paul Bradley. Even the European Commission has applauded the Room 13 initiative!
The studio is also like a business, as it raises money to cover its own operating costs and has a student "Management Team" which runs the facility.
Lauren Lloyd, an ex pupil of Hareclive Primary who is now at Bridge Learning Campus, returned to support her old school and raise funds for the highly acclaimed Room 13. She was among a small group of youngsters who were invited to The Mansion House in Clifton, (The Lord Mayor's Residence) to make a presentation to 60 people at The Funding Network. This is an event where philanthropists and important local business people can pledge support for projects that inspire them
Each of the five teams had 15 minutes to present their case for funding and answer questions from the audience. Lauren Lloyd from Bridge Learning Campus was helped by two younger pupils - Courtney Radford and Kyle Williams - both in Year 6 at Hareclive Academy. Their aim was to persuade the assembled business people that Room 13 was a project well worth supporting.

Their practice, hard work and professional presentation worked its magic and, despite handling probing questions from the audience, Lauren and her team won over £4,000 from the generous individuals who came to support deserving projects in the Bristol area.
Room 13 at Hareclive is now in its tenth year and is keen to win new friends and gain new sponsorship, so that its creative and empowering studio can continue its excellent work.
