South West and Southern Centre riders Ben Bramwell and Kevin Hart took the top two places in the West Wilts' Errington Cup trial at Easterton Sands, near Devizes, on Sunday.

With Wessex Centre championship points at stake, 45 contested the four-lap 11-section event in Folly Woods but the entry list did not contain title-holder Colin Crease, who was suffering from flu.

The 10th section claimed most marks, with Bramwell losing 11 there, and Hart 10.

Both were outshone by Wilts Border clubman Craig Talbot, who was unpenalised on his first two laps but shed a single mark there on his third and final laps.

Competing on an easier route, Trevor Ashford was best clubman expert, with single-mark debits in the third and seventh, and his father Hedley was winner of the non-expert award, with a single mark loss in the eighth.

Over-40 years class winner Tim Wheeler lost two marks in the seventh, and over-50 class victor Martin Strang incurred single-mark debits in the fifth and eights, plus three in the seventh.

Welshman Julian Page repeated last year's win in the West of England club's round of the National Trail Bike championship in South Devon.

An entry of 180 faced 26 observed sections in an 80-mile route.

Page lost two marks in the Pitton Group, two more at Hound Tor and one in Northwood.

Second and third-placed Jez Bray and Ben Falconer lost seven marks each, but Bray was fastest in the special test and took second place.

Yeovil's Ricky Wiggins was a clear winner of the Tiverton South West Centre trial at Cove, near Bampton, which was decided over three laps of 18 sections at wet and slippery Marwoods Farm.

He incurred five single-mark debits and he finished 50 marks ahead of youth expert class winner Keelan Hancock.
