County champion Shelby Smart (Knowle), who is now playing off four, gave Gloucestershire girls a perfect start by winning her greensomes with 22-handicapper Shannon Millichip (Cotswold Edge) against the county boys Under-16s at Stinchcombe Hill.

They beat captain Jamie Graham (The Players) and Josh Denley (Chipping Sodbury) 4 and 3.

But that was to be the only success for the girls who lost 3.5 to 1.5. Alex Saunders (Bristol & Clifton) and Charlotte Stamford (Lilley Brook) scored a half-point against Matt Cheesbrough (Thornbury) and Kenny Overthrow (Painswick).

Luke Gaskins (Lilley Brook) and Mike Downey (Cotswold Hills) beat Claire Wenman (Cotswold Edge) and Sally White 2 up.

Adam Gaskins (Lilley Brook) and Mitchel Waite (Filton) beat Gemima Gregson (Knowle) and Victoria Wakely-Jones (Cotswold Hills) 3 and 2, while Minchinhampton pair Harry Owen and Kesley March beat Jess Stevens (Lilley Brook) and Bethan Brown (Kendleshire) 5 and 4.
