Boy band bow out
In these days of short-lived, reality TV-minted 'stars', it's all too easy to go on holiday and miss an artist's entire career. So any pop act that lasts longer than 12 months is surely due a long-service medal.
The Methuselah-esque Westlife, who've been going for 14 years, practically qualify as the Sir Cliff or Quo of boy bands. As their website is eager to remind us, these Irish popsters have notched up 14 number one hits in that time – only three fewer than the Beatles. But it seems the moptops' record is safe, as Westlife have decided to bow out.
