Bowler Ley brings the House down
George Ley starred with 6-10 to help Bedminster to a thrilling one-run victory over Twyford House in the Bristol group of the MCC Under-13 National Cup.
Bedminster had posted 123-8 with Dan West making an unbeaten 30. Although Jordan Whittaker made 33 not out for Twyford, Ley's return helped dismiss them for 122.
In the South Gloucestershire group, Raj Chudasama played his part with bat and ball to help Frenchay (142-2) overcome Old Down (67ao) by 75 runs.
He took 3-3 to help peg back Old Down after making 26. Tom Williams (30no) and Matthew Taylor (23) also helped Frenchay set their target.
Chipping Sodbury (162-2) overcame Bradley Stoke (54-6) by 108 runs, while Downend (83-3) had an unbeaten 30 from G Farmer in their seven-wicket victory against Winterbourne (82-5), despite an undefeated 32 by J Bracey.
Josh Lintern took 7-14 from 3.4 overs to help Thornbury to a six-wicket win over Chipping Sodbury A in Section A of the Under-11 League.
His return, allied with 2-11 from Nathan Adams, helped restrict Sodbury to 70 all out and Thornbury then reached 72-4, despite 2-6 for C Butcher.
Frampton Cotterell (70-3) chalked up an 11-run win over Winterbourne B (59-7), while Rockhampton (75-0) cruised to a 10-wicket triumph against Almondsbury (74ao). Coalpit Heath (92-3) were the section's other victors as they beat Patchway (58-5) by 34 runs.
In Section B, Matthew Beauchamp scored an unbeaten 25 from just eight balls, Charlie Mitcham also undefeated on the same figure, to help Hambrook post 95-4. It proved too much for Chipping Sodbury B, who could only reach 71-5 as Sam Williams – still an Under-9 – took 4-3.
Frenchay's 91-4 was enough to seal a seven-run victory over Marshfield, despite an unbeaten 27 from J Kiselewski.
Section C saw Pak Bristolians (78-1) beat rivals Bristol Pakistanis (77ao) by nine wickets. Adullah Tabraiz (4-9) and Azan Naseer (3-6) were the pick of the Pak Bristolians bowlers, while Bilal Raja (26no) and Sherez Ali (18no) impressed with the bat.
Hanham (52-5) saw off Stapleton (50-7) by five wickets, while Bishopston (89-3) were seven-wicket winners over Gordano Downs B in Section D and Portishead (102-5) beat Nailsea (72-3) in Section E.
The Under-13 League saw a high-scoring Section B game between Bristol Phoenix (111-6) and Pucklechurch (111-7), which ended in a tie, while Winterbourne A (66-6) were four-wicket winners against Patchway (64-8) in Section A, J Fox taking 3-5 for the victors.
Hanham's impressive 136-3 was far too much for Bristol Pakistanis (51ao) and earned them an 85-run triumph in Section D, while Brislington raced to 123-0 as they beat Whitchurch B (58ao) by 65 runs.
In Section E, Bishopston A were indebted to an unbeaten 62 from Hugo Burton as their 131-1 from 20 overs saw them beat Shirehampton (92-7 in 16) on a faster scoring rate. Angus More-O'Farrell made 54 not out for Shire.
Will Wright's 4-13 from three overs helped restrict Long Ashton B (94-6) as Bristol YMCA (106-3) recorded a 12-run win.
In Section F, Osama Sohail (32) helped Pak Bristolians (100-3) defeat Stoke Bishop A (98-5) by seven wickets. H Patel made 38 for Stoke Bishop, while Hamza Hussain took 3-8 for the winners. Knowle (96-4) beat Stapleton (93-8) by six wickets.
Long Ashton's 26-run win over Lodway (93-5) in Section G owed much to T Sheridan, who made 57 to help them set a tyarget of 119-3.
Old Bristolians/Westbury (112-2) beat Bedminster (111-4) by eight wickets, while Gordano Downs (116-4) were six-wicket winners over Nailsea B (115-5).
In the Under-15 League's Section B, H Moore hit 102no and J Summerfield 59no as Thornbury Blue amassed a huge 190-2 on their way to a 104-run win over Hambrook (86-7).
Bishopston A (114ao) overcame Bedminster (90-6) by 24 runs in Section D, while Claverham (129-5) beat Nailsea (58ao) by 71 runs in Section E and Brislington (147-4 in 20 overs) triumphed through a faster scoring rate than Pak Bristolians (89-1 in 15.3) in Section F.
James Young hit 44 and Zak Piper took 3-17 to help
OB/Westbury to a 21-run win over Bishopston B (101-7) in the preliminary round of the Urban Windows Under-15 KO. Old Down (96-3) saw off Frampton Cotterell (95) by seven wickets.
Russell Simpson held five catches as Brislington (49-3) overcame Whitchurch (48ao) by seven wickets in the Bristol group of the Nationwide Under-15 National Cup.
Bristol YMCA (105-0) progressed by 10 wickets against Pak Bristolians (102-7), with George Bacon making an unbeaten 52 for the winners.
Harry Morgan's undefeated 46 and 53 not out by Michael Moroz helped Bishopston B post 121-1 against Bedminster (81-7) and record a 40-run victory.
In the South Gloucestershire group, Winterbourne (51-0) got past Downend A (49-7) by 10 wickets, while Thornbury (144-3) cruised past Chipping Sodbury A (22ao) by 122 runs.
Coalpit Heath A had 51 from K Smith as they posted 131-6 against Rockhampton, who were dismised for 42 with B Naeem taking 3-6 and C Brailey 2-6.
Josh Coombes' 39 helped Bitton (81-4) overcome Downend B (77-9) by six wickets, despite 29 from Aranjet Gharyal. And although Tom Bradley and G Kelly both made half-centuries for Almondsbury (130-1), Luke Baker's unbeaten 78 steered Frampton Cotterell to a seven-wicket triumph.
Chipping Sodbury B successfully defended their total of 117-3 (Jack Townsend 52no) as Old Down reached 108-7, G Williams making an unbeaten 50.
At Under-17 level, Old Down (85-6) beat Hawkesbury (71ao) by 14 runs in section A, where Gloucester City Winget (56-1) beat Rockhampton (52-9) by nine wickets and Thornbury Red (200-3) demolished Almondsbury (49ao) by 151 runs. Harry Blackwell (86no) and Jeremy Westwood (55) were major contributors for Thornbury.
In Section B, Downend (69-1) were nine-wicket victors over Frampton Cotterell (66-9), Chipping Sodbury (85-8) beat Thornbury Blue (52ao) by 33 runs.
Bristol West Indians (174-6) had 75 from I Reid as they beat Pucklechurch (82ao) by 92 runs in Section C. D Batt took 5-20 for the West Indians, while M Perkins captured 4-15 for Pucklechurch.
Pak Bristolians (147-6) had 37 from Hanzlah and 35 from Shahil as they beat Lansdown (142-6) by five runs, Adeel taking 3-25. Hanham (115-1) won by the same margin against Marshfield (110-6) with Kandarp Patel making an unbeaten 57 for the victors.
